Just when we thought that surely, surely Karl Lager­feld couldn’t ex­ceed his own show­man­ship, along comes an­other Fash­ion Week. He’s im­ported ice­bergs, had wind tur­bines on the cat­walk and built air­ports from the ground up. For AW17, how­ever, he went to new heights – lit­er­ally. The cen­tre­piece of the run­way was, in fact, a rocket – or­bited by a model line-up in­clud­ing Ken­dall Jen­ner, Bella and Gigi Ha­did and Ad­woa Aboah, all show­cas­ing a 60s take on clas­sic Chanel tropes. The clas­sic tweed and pearl adorn­ments were punc­tu­ated with Space Age sil­ver foil ac­cents and toe-capped boots. As the big fi­nale ap­proached, the on­look­ers (in­clud­ing Lily Rose Depp, Cara Delev­ingne and Lily Allen) re­ceived a big sur­prise when the rocket ac­tu­ally launched. Now that’s how it’s done.
