Just when we thought that surely, surely Karl Lagerfeld couldn’t exceed his own showmanship, along comes another Fashion Week. He’s imported icebergs, had wind turbines on the catwalk and built airports from the ground up. For AW17, however, he went to new heights – literally. The centrepiece of the runway was, in fact, a rocket – orbited by a model line-up including Kendall Jenner, Bella and Gigi Hadid and Adwoa Aboah, all showcasing a 60s take on classic Chanel tropes. The classic tweed and pearl adornments were punctuated with Space Age silver foil accents and toe-capped boots. As the big finale approached, the onlookers (including Lily Rose Depp, Cara Delevingne and Lily Allen) received a big surprise when the rocket actually launched. Now that’s how it’s done.
