MEGHAN: ‘I CAN HANDLE THIS’
Waiting for a ring? Desperate to be a royal? As if. Prince Harry might be concerned about the attention around Meghan Markle, but we’re told the actress is more than capable of dealing with the drama. Bring. It. On!
am a sure thing.’ Those might be the words of Meghan Markle’s Suits character, paralegal Rachel Zane, but they certainly could apply to the actress in real life. Meghan, 35, whose romantic relationship with Prince Harry first came to light in October, has reportedly told her royal boyfriend that he doesn’t need to fight her battles for her, as she’s more than ready for the attention that may come with getting hitched to a prince.
‘He’s been very protective,’ says our source. ‘But Meghan has had to remind Harry that she’s used to fame and she’s more than ready to do what it takes for love.’
Since the pair met in Toronto last May, when Harry was promoting the Invictus Games, Meghan’s racked up more than 50,000 air miles – yes, we counted – jetting across the Atlantic to be with Harry, sometimes for only days at a time. But things are set to get even more serious, as sources have told Look that the actress is set to visit Harry at Easter – with her parents.
‘Meghan and Harry are in this for the long term,’ says our insider. ‘This is the next logical step, as they’ve already talked about getting married.’
As Look reported previously, Meghan has been taking steps to wind down her acting career and move to London for Harry – but she’s not ‘waiting for a ring’.
‘What people don’t realise about Meghan is how fiercely ambitious she is, and she’s determined to set her own agenda and do her own thing,’ says our source. ‘No matter how much she loves Harry and wants to get married, she’ll still be doing her own thing.’
Meghan has her own lifestyle website, thetig.com – she recently shared her fury over her freckles being edited out of photos – and she’s also a United Nations advocate for political participation and leadership. ‘She won’t give any of that up for the royals,’ adds our source – something Harry, 32, finds very attractive. ‘He’s totally behind Meghan and admires her for making it clear she’ll put her own ambitions before being part of the royal family.’
But while we like the sound of that, traditionalists might have something to say about the fact that Meghan’s not keen to take on full-time royal duties once she and Harry wed.
‘Meghan’s never been scared of challenging people or speaking her mind,’ says another source. ‘She could shake things up a bit for the royals.’
Meanwhile, Meghan’s best friend Lindsay Roth insists the star is being true to herself. ‘I don’t know many people who are as generous and supportive as Meg is,’ said Lindsay, defending Meghan last week.‘i think people assume that when someone gains notoriety that they change. But she’s still the same girl I met years ago, with the same values and priorities. She’s selfless, and that’s just a part of who she is and who she was raised to be.’ Roll on the next royal wedding!
