On The high street? Uniqlo has qui­etly be­come the high street’s high fash tour de force. With a col­lab with J.W. An­der­son on its way, it’s time to em­brace the Uniqlo uni­verse

As far as de­signer col­lab­o­ra­tions go, Uniqlo likes to ap­proach them with less noise than other brands. There’s no social me­dia takeover and no su­per-celeb en­dorse­ments. The high street store has, for ex­am­ple, been work­ing with for­mer Her­mès artis­tic di­rec­tor Christophe Le­maire for the past few years and the de­signer now heads up his own line, Uniqlo U.

The aes­thetic is clean, time­less and takes a di­rec­tional ap­proach to clas­sic pieces like short-sleeved shirts, shift dresses and pleated midi skirts. And if one fash­ion force wasn’t enough, Uniqlo also works with French style pin-up Inès de La Fres­sange, who cre­ates ba­sics el­e­vated by her con­tem­po­rary take on fem­i­nin­ity.

Join­ing the fray is Brit J.W. An­der­son, renowned for his in­no­va­tive de­signs. The multi-award-win­ning de­signer will cre­ate both menswear and wom­enswear for AW17. While we’ll have to wait to see what this col­lab looks like, we can con­tent our­selves with of­fer­ings avail­able right now. Heat tech and high fash­ion? It could only be Uniqlo.
