Hi Britt! What can you tell us about the plot? in the first season, you get a sense of who Sophia is – a young girl in her twenties who’s also a bit of a rebel. She’s not sure what she wants her life to be but she knows she doesn’t want to do the classic 9-5 job. She’s super-passionate about vintage clothes, but has no way of channelling that energy early on. throughout the first series, you really see how she takes ownership and starts to pursue fashion in this unique way. it’s about being the boss of your own life, which is essentially the Girlboss motto. What attracted you to the role? i knew it was something that would excite me every day – that’s the dream. Sophia is an executive producer on the show. Did she offer you any advice? i spent a lot of time with Sophia. She invited me for lunch and shopping, which was so exciting. What do you like most about Sophia’s character? She doesn’ t give a crap about what anyone thinks. i’m a people pleaser, which is the exact opposite, but i’m fascinated by people who couldn’t care less. Can you see any changes in yourself after playing the role? One thing i learnt is that you should never be afraid to fail. i’ve always had a hard time with that. You have to be OK with falling on your face and knowing that after you fall on your face you need to get up and try again. Who’s your girl boss? Kay Cannon [writer and creator]. W he ni talk about he rig et tea rye ye d–she’ s everything that human beings should be. She cares a lot, she loves hard, she respects people and she’s so talented. Knowing that you can do it all and still be gracious is more inspiring than anything. Do you think the role influenced you style-wise? Definitely. When i was in my teens i got really into vintage clothes, so the show has re-energised my love. the first timei hung out with Sophia, i thought it would be good to wear vintage. i got a Gucci sundress for $30. i was so proud of myself.
