VENICE? V. NICE

Look (UK) - - HEY BUSY GIRL -

With a little one on the way, mid-spring seemed like the perfect time to treat the other half to a babymoon. He’d never been to Venice, and while I visited aged 11, a minibreak with my parents doesn’t quite cut it in the romance stakes. I booked our trip through booking.com, whose latest stats reveal that 53 per cent of couples reckon their first holiday is way more exciting than their first date. So did my OH find it as exciting as our first date? OH: ‘As exciting as our first date? At a pub in Clapham?’ Me: ‘Yes.’ OH: ‘When you got a nervy sweat on and had to hide in the loo to cool down?’ Me: ‘Yesss…õ OH: ‘Venice was equally exciting, and 100 per cent more relaxing…’ STAY We stayed at the Ca’della Scimmia apartments (booking.com) in the heart of the San Polo district, next to Rialto’s famous fruit and veg market. A 10-minute walk to Piazza San Marco, I couldn’t have been more impressed with the location or – given the impressive 9.5/10 guest review rating – how easy it was to book. DO Getupearlyandcatchavaporettotosan Giorgio for unrivalled views of the city. It’snearwhereamalclooneystayedthe night before her wedding to George. EAT Bookatableatantichecarampane (antiche carampane.com) – hands down the best lunch I’ve ever eaten. So much so, you can often find me staring out of the window dreaming of that tagliolini primi piatti.

DRINK My OH sunk Aperol spritzes while I fell for our morning coffee hit at Goppion Caffetteria (goppioncaffe.it). Decaffeinato or not, nothing has you feeling like a local like an espresso at the bar at 7am.

Glamour, gondolas and great food…
