‘I Never Thought I’d Make It’ Emma on her go-to beauty products, the pressures of live TV and how she maintains that killer figure

Look (UK) - - FIRST -

TV queen, mum of three, #fitnessgoals and our go-to for pixie haircut inspiration – it’s no surprise that Emma Willis has always been a firm Look favourite.

In the last couple of years, the presenter has barely been off our TV screens, juggling her schedule between Big Brother, The Voice UK and this year’s BRIT Awards (Emma’s career highlight to date). It’s fair to say she’s one of TV’S brightest stars.

When Look settles down for a chat with the 41-year-old, it’s ahead of her dramatic dash to hospital that saw the star undergo emergency surgery for an infected appendix (we’re told she’s now recovering well) and she’s in good spirits, as she always is.

Emma’s come a long way in the last decade. TV blunders rarely faze her and when it comes to feeling under pressure, she refuses to let others get her down. Yes, live TV can be scary – but ‘nowhere near as terrifying as raising a child’. In our catch-up, Emma – who’s married to Busted’s Matt, 34 – reveals the secrets behind her figure, her fave beauty products and whether she’d enter the CBB house…

You’re an ambassador for Gillette Venus. How do you get party-ready? I always start by banishing the children to another room [laughs]. If I need to be quick, I line up all my essentials, jump in the shower, shave using my Venus Snap, get dressed, grab some dry shampoo and do my make-up on the go. If I have more time I’ll lock the bathroom door, lie in the bath for 30 minutes, then spend an hour choosing my outfit. What’s your favourite beauty product at the moment? The Venus Swirl – it shaves and moisturises at the same time. What’s your go-to fashion item? A black jumpsuit. It’s smart enough, but cool and casual too. Just add a little bomber jacket and a pair of heels. Do you have any style icons? Gwen Stefani and Victoria Beckham. I’d love to dress like Gwen if I was brave enough, and with Victoria I just want everything she designs. Do you have any favourite brands? Malin+goetz. I’ve just started using the moisturiser and it’s really good. The brand’s products are amazing. When it comes to fitness, which exercises do you find most effective? HIIT, light weights and boxing – I try to incorporate all three. What’s your food mantra? I think everything in moderation, but I don’t eat badly. I do have a sweet tooth, so every now and then I’ll banish sugar and cleanse my system, so I’m definitely more of a detoxer than a dieter. Do you ever feel pressure to look a certain way? No. I won’t allow myself to feel pressure from other people, especially when it comes to getting in shape. I work out because I enjoy it. If the ‘me time’ I get can be spent becoming stronger and fitter, then that’s what I’m doing it for, not for looking as slim as possible on TV. I still get nervous, but I think my age has made me more comfortable. As nerve-wracking as live TV is, I always think: is it as terrifying as raising a child? That’s my bar of comparison. What’s one piece of advice you would give to young girls? Be realistic. My one bugbear is people portraying themselves in a very unrealistic way. People aren’t perfect and trying to portray a perfect life is unhealthy. You were recently praised for how you handled the stage invader on The Voice. Are you used to stuff going wrong on air? Had I known it had happened it probably would have fazed me [laughs], but I was totally oblivious until afterwards. The new series of CBB is coming up. Who would you most like to see in the house? Can I have two? Richard and Judy. I just want to watch them all the time. Would you ever go in yourself? Sometimes I think if I really love it I should want to experience it from all angles, but I’d never want to be disappointed. I’m just going to stick to presenting. I guess you know what happens in there… You know what, I don’t. A lot of it is very spontaneous – I like watching it as a viewer. Did you have any career inspiration when you were getting into the industry? Not really, because I feel like I’ve blagged it a little bit. I was always waiting for it to end because I never thought it’d last. Do you have a favourite interview? Will Smith was amazing – everything you want the Fresh Prince of Bel Air to be. He’s a Hollywood great. What’s your idea of a perfect date night with Matt? Probably a night in! Put the kids to bed and watch more than one episode of a box set. We’ve just finished The Crown and we might start Line Of Duty tonight…
