The pow­der, de­rived from su­per­food hemp seeds, is a great (not to men­tion sur­pris­ing) source of protein and fibre. It’s an ideal al­ter­na­tive to whey pow­der if you want some­thing that’s ve­gan-friendly and nat­u­ral. Nutri­tion­ist Shona Wilkin­son ex­plains: ‘Hemp seeds are rich in omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids and con­tain 21 amino acids. More than 25 per cent of their to­tal calo­ries is from high-qual­ity protein, mak­ing them a great base for a nat­u­ral, ve­gan protein pow­der.’ Hemp also packs a healthy punch of di­etary fibre, re­duc­ing con­sti­pa­tion and tox­ins in the body. How­ever, the high fibre con­tent can cause bloat­ing, so go easy at first use.
