victoria: ‘i’m calling the shots’

She manages the entire Beckham clan seamlessly, but David’s keen for Vic to take some time off…

We don’t know how Victoria Beckham does it. One minute she’s showcasing a new launch in Shanghai, the next she’s touching down in Africa for a safari holiday with her family. But despite VB having undisputed incredible multitasking skills, one person who’s said to wish she would slow down is husband David – who’s reportedly begging Vic to take even more time out. According to a source speaking exclusively to Look, David,42, is desperate to have some quality time with 43-year-old Victoria, especially as their eighteenth wedding anniversary is fast approaching on 4 July. ‘David’s asked Vic to schedule in some downtime,’ reveals a close friend. ‘For Vic, family does come first, but she believes she can do it all. David knows she’s good at managing everything, but doesn’t want her to burn out. However, Victoria’s determined to keep pushing on with her career – in the next six months alone she’ll be out of the country at least 15 times.’ It’s fair to say that VB has a pretty good track record when it comes to managing the Beckham clan. Not only does the pop star turned

fashion designer jet all over the world for her career, she also manages the kids’ lives, too.

Son Brooklyn, 18, is preparing to release his debut photography book What I See on 29 June, while Victoria has recently enrolled daughter Harper, five, into a prestigious London stage school.

While there’s no denying Vic and David prioritise their family – speaking at a Father’s Day event last week, David gushed that ‘time with the kids is the most important thing to [him]’ – VB has admitted her home life can be pretty hectic.

‘Normally, I wake up, do half my workout – an hour – wake the kids up, give them their breakfast, take them to school, come back, do another hour, quickly shower and then come into work,’ she said earlier this year, adding: ‘When I get in from work, it’s tea time, bath time, homework time, bedtime, then if Brooklyn is home I want to talk to him. So I don’t really get any time in the evening.’

It’s not just the kids Vic is managing. She’s said to be in charge of the family’s Cotswolds move – which is now delayed thanks to planning application problems.

Only last week, David’s Miami soccer deal overcame a major hurdle in securing land to build a stadium. Victoria is said to have played a part in that, too. While the deal has been criticised for dragging on over the last few years, Vic has been a huge support. And when David’s ‘Beckileaks’ scandal hit in February, she was said to have triggered an action plan to get a handle on the drama.

But Victoria is a self-confessed perfectionist – in an interview earlier this year she revealed she ‘likes to be in control’ – and has admitted to being a bit of a workaholic. ‘She wants to spend more time with David but doesn’t want to stop pursuing her career goals,’ our source says.

The family scheduled in a holiday to Africa a few weeks ago, but while David was busy posting heaps of family photographs on Instagram, Victoria’s social media was business as usual, sharing just a couple of candid shots. ‘I think I will probably always work,’ Vic revealed in May. ‘[But] I would like to spend more quality time with my husband – go away for the weekend, that kind of thing.’

Hmm, we hope those two manage to squeeze in a romantic getaway ASAP. After all, 18 years as a married couple is a huge achievement and definitely worth celebrating – happy upcoming anniversary, guys!
