‘We’re Putting The Fun Back Into Your Love Life’
Fed up of never finding a date? Meet Chrissy Rigby and Danni Menzies – founders of Pitchit, where a date is always in the bag…
‘We were chatting with friends about how frustrating dating apps are these days. It got to the point where we were deleting them off our phones in the day then re-downloading them later when we were bored. We wanted to create something that takes the annoying part out of Tinder – the part where you’re chatting to someone but it never leads to an actual date. We’d been thinking about Pitchit for a while, but only really started working on it when, coincidentally and hilariously, Chrissy broke her leg catching the bouquet at a wedding. She ended up being unable to walk for 14 weeks. We spent that time planning and mapping out our app.
‘The idea is to come up with a date. It can be anything – your dream evening, a fun activity or just dinner. Next you pitch the date on the app and wait for people to accept. You have to narrow them down to three people and then you have 24 hours to chat and choose who you want to take. We’ve seen all kinds of ideas, from a walk around Richmond Park
with wine to axe-throwing (just imagine it’s your ex!). We’ve got quite a few dates we’re going to be giving away too, like paddleboard yoga and electrocution lessons (that’s where you’re strapped into a wetsuit and given electric shocks while you’re working out).
‘We’ve both had our share of horrific dates, which is one of the reasons we made the app. Chrissy once arrived to find the guy drunk and slurring his words. She left but later found out he’d woken up at a bus stop the next morning. Then there’s the classic “I’ve forgotten my wallet” line. In fact there’s a feature on the app where you can split the bill beforehand (like Uber) so it takes the pressure off.
‘The great thing about Pitchit is that even if you’re having a rubbish time, you’re still doing something you enjoy. Who would we like to see on the app? Danni’s looking out for Daniel Radcliffe whereas Chrissy is expecting Brad Pitt – she reckons he’ll pitch something with his kids. No matter what the date, someone will be up for it.’
