Victoria & DAVID: torn apart
To get even schedules set With the Beckhams’ down… putting her foot busier, Vic is
Oh dear. Does the drama ever stop for the Beckhams? Former footie ace David and fashion designer Victoria might be days away from celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary on 4 July, but tensions are said to be running high at their London residence. Sources say the pair are battling against their ‘insane work schedules’, which threaten to keep them apart for much more time than they’d like.
As Look reported a couple of weeks ago, 43-year-old Vic has been managing the entire Beckham family seamlessly while jetting around the world and managing her fashion empire. But now she’s thought to be taking a step back to consider her and David’s work commitments – and a recent development with David’s Miami football team deal is said to be a catalyst in her decision.
While David’s plans for a stadium were given the green light earlier this month, they could be delayed even further after a top Miami lawyer voiced some worrying concerns last week. According to a close source, it could mean David, 42, spending even more time in America – so what does that mean for the Beckhams?
‘Victoria’s refusing to slow down,’ reveals a close pal. ‘She and David always put the family first but it’s going to be difficult as they both need to be in different countries a lot in the future.
‘She’s determined to take her business to the next level in the coming months but doesn’t want to do it at the cost of her marriage and home life.’
The friend adds: ‘She’s really supportive of David and it’s not like she’s asking him to sacrifice all his dreams and ambitions, but she’s gripped with a real dilemma of trying to keep the marriage fresh and alive while they’re both contending with frantically busy schedules.
‘He’s taken on this huge responsibility of launching the Miami football team and he’s going to be busier than ever.’
The tensions arise as eldest son Brooklyn prepares to head to university in New York in August. ‘I got in on my own, not because of my parents, which is cool,’ revealed Brooklyn recently (read our exclusive chat with him on p34). ‘And they gave me a scholarship.’
Brooklyn leaving home is said to have jolted Victoria a little. While she wants him to head out into the world, she’s feeling a little sad about her firstborn flying the coop.
‘Obviously Vic wants Brooklyn to do his own thing, but it’s made her realise how precious time is,’ explains a pal. ‘She feels as though only five minutes ago she was changing nappies. It’s made her think about the rest of the kids – before she knows it they’ll be growing up and leaving home, too. She wants to make the most of it.’
Despite this, Vic is adamant that she’s feeling good about the family overall. Recently she revealed her moody pout was merely a façade.
‘If I really was as miserable as I look in some of those paparazzi pictures, my children wouldn’t be as happy as they are. And I certainly wouldn’t be married any more,’ she said. However, friends say the truth is Vic is struggling but she’s doing her best to put up a united front. After all, it wasn’t long ago she revealed she was hoping to spend ‘more quality time with her husband’.
While Vic’s determined the uncertainty won’t rock the family, she’s said to have made a new pact with David, with new rules.
‘They’ve promised to fly from wherever they are to have at least one proper date weekend a month,’ the friend reveals. ‘Their teams know that family holidays are the top priority and they can’t be shifted from their schedules. Family is the most important thing to her.
‘From David’s perspective, it’s a great time to temporarily relocate – and with Brooklyn in America anyway, he’s very keen. But he’s glad they’ve both agreed to prioritise their marriage.’
Hmm, could we see a Victoria Beckham: Coming To America Part 2? Not gonna lie, we’d pay good money to see that…
