THE NEW MAXI RULES

Get excited – fancy floor-grazers are firmly back on the fashion map. Here’s how to wear yours now

Look (UK) - - FIRST LOOK - words: BARBARA MCMILLAN @BARBARAMCMILLAN

If you’ve been stockpiling this hero summer staple for some time now but feel like you’ve fallen out of love with the look, we have good news. There are plenty of easy outfit ideas to steal from the brilliantly dressed style set, who’ve slowly been tempting us to slip back into something longer.

So what’s new style-wise? We’re rethinking the heels-and-prettyprints combo previously reserved for fancy occasions and instead we’re slipping into well-worn trainers or ankle boots to make our maxis really go the distance. Make room in your wardrobe for anything with a sleeve, a high neck or an asymmetric hemline and wear with utility shirts, denim jackets and supersized sunnies. Remember to embrace excess: ruffles, bold prints and vivid hues reign supreme RN and anything with extra swish is a winner.

Equally, evening styles shouldn’t be restricted to weddings. Offset your ladylike dress with hi-top trainers, sleek summer sliders and chunky jewellery to add instant cool points and nail that new-season look.
