The Chenille Showdown
Love it or hate it, it’s back – but would you go there? The Look team hash it out…
Between the return of cord, cashmere and the teddy coat, it’s clear that being cosy is top of the fashion formula this season. The latest trend is no exception: chenille. It’s the velvety yarn that comes weaved or knitted, and while you probably know it best in jumper form, autumn/ winter offers up a whole load of shapes and styles. We’re talking dresses, roll necks, scarves – the lot. But what does the Look team really think of this retro fabric revival? Acting Editor Maxine Eggenberger says: ‘Yes, yes, yes! It’s the new velvet – the sort of fabric you can dress up with a vinyl mini skirt after dark, or stay caj with jeans during the day. I’m so glad it’s back.’ Acting Deputy Editor Giselle Wainwright isn’t so keen: ‘I really hate texture, it makes my skin crawl. It reminds me of my mum dressing me for a party when I was eight – you can guess what a treat that was.’ Whatever your thoughts, this is one trend impossible to ignore!
