Has Ri proved she can bring any brand to their knees?

Music, fashion, beauty, film – if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Rihanna, it’s that she’s great at everything, but you definitely shouldn’t mess with her. It’s a lesson that Snapchat learnt the hard way, when the singer condemned their ad, which referenced the incident in 2009 that saw her ex, Chris Brown, charged with assault. ‘I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb!’ she posted. It’s reportedly contributed to knocking approximately £500m off the comapny’s stock market value.

With public reaction boosting her confidence, Ri-ri, 30, is now said to be on a mission to call out anyone who goes against her.

‘Rihanna is crushing it right now, and her success has given her a real sense of focus,’ says an insider close to the singer. ‘Years ago, she would have thought twice about speaking out, but she has so many people looking up to her now and she doesn’t want to let them down.’

Ri-ri’s spent a lot of the past year focusing on her Clara Lionel Foundation, and that’s also helped her to find her voice. ‘She feels a responsibility to help those who are less empowered than her,’ we’re told. It’s definitely a different Rihanna to the girl who admitted, ‘Really, I am quite shy,’ in 2015.

‘She’s more independent and strong-willed than she’s ever been,’ adds another pal. ‘The Snapchat incident isn’t something she could ignore – Ri-ri doesn’t take any nonsense from anyone. She only wants genuine people around her – that goes for her personal and her professional life.’

It applies specifically to her man, Hassan Jameel. The pair have been together for nearly a year, and he’s said to be ‘a great source of strength’. ‘He loves her take-charge attitude and urges her to speak out. It’s a more adult relationship than any she’s had before,’ says the friend.

And anyone else looking to take on Ri-ri needs to watch out.

‘Rihanna has the support of all her powerful friends,’ says the insider. ‘She’s the last person you’d want to cross. She has so much influence, and she won’t hesitate to use it.’
