HER 7 STEPS TO SUCCESS
Having a tough week? Take inspiration from Jennifer Lawrence, who is on a mission to make her well-being a priority
An Oscar, a BAFTA, three Golden Globes. There’s no doubt that Jennifer Lawrence is one of the world’s most successful – and yet somehow so relatable – stars. But despite a string of critically acclaimed movies, it’s not been the easiest of years for the 27 year old. It’s unsurprising that we’ve heard Jen’s having a work/life overhaul, pushing her limits and having a muchdeserved reboot. From networking, teaming up with a mentor, practising meditation and learning how to self-care, we could all learn from Jen’s example.
1. POWER HOUR
Businesswoman and founder of Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington, starts her day with 30 minutes of exercise, followed by 30 minutes of mediation. Gwyneth Paltrow has a mug of hot water and lemon, while US editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour has a knock-about on the tennis court (who doesn’t?). And according to an insider, a focused morning routine is how Jen has been starting her day, too. ‘Jen is determined to makeover her career, but she’s adamant it all starts from within,’ explains a friend. ‘She’s focusing on getting her mind recharged and takes an hour each morning for “me time”. She sets her alarm to make sure she can do a yoga and meditation session.’
2. MENTOR WITH MEANING
She might be forming a close team of Hollywood power players, but Jen is also keen to stay connected with some of her closest confidants, especially director David O.russell – who Jen has known and worked with for over six years. ‘Jen thinks David’s just the man to help her with everything. She’s thinking strategically about her career and wants the right people around her,’ explains an insider. ‘David has always been a constant in her life and right now, she’s leaning on him for support.’
3. PICK A (POWER) PARTNER
Jen has recently been signed with power agent, LBI Entertainment’s Rick Yorn, who’s also long-term rep and close friend of Leonardo Dicaprio. ‘Both Jen and Leo have been hunting for the perfect script and there are plans to get them to star in movies together,’ explains a friend. ‘Jen has always been a fan of Leo’s films and is jumping at the chance to work with him.’ Note to self: pick your wingman wisely.
4. FAILURE > SUCCESS
The last 12 months have been a little tricky for Jen. Not only was she awarded a Razzie for Worst Actress after her role in Mother! but she was also heavily criticised for her outfit choice at the photocall for hit spy thriller, Red Sparrow. When Jen was questioned for not wearing a coat over her (fabulous) Versace dress (fans were quick to draw comparison with her male co-stars who were wrapped in coats and scarves) she took to Facebook to hit back at critics.
‘You think I’m going to cover that gorgeous dress up with a coat and a scarf? I was outside for five minutes. I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice,’ wrote Jen. ‘This is sexist, this is ridiculous, this is not feminism.’ We’ve heard this kind of criticism is only fuelling Jen even further. According to an insider, Jen has always lived by this mantra. ‘What some people don’t realise about Jen is that she takes her career very seriously. Obviously, she’s had to deal with some upsets this year – breaking up with Darren wasn’t easy – but she’s even more motivated to succeed.’

5. PUSH YOUR LIMITS
Earlier this year, Jen revealed the film she’s been writing with Amy Schumer is finally coming together. ‘She’s been toying with the idea of doing her own comedy special for some time,’ explains a friend. ‘It would be a different move for her, but she’s ready for the challenge and thinks her movie with Amy Schumer will be a step in the right direction.’and as Look reported a few weeks ago, she’s also keen to get involved in some charity work too. In an interview, Jen recently revealed: ‘I’m going to be working with this organization as a part of Represent.us... trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level.’ It’s said to be part of Jen’s plan to push the boundaries of her comfort zone. ‘Jen has always liked helping people, she really wants to make sure she’s still doing her part and giving something back. But she also wants to push herself.’
‘I’m a big believer in accepting yourself and not really worrying about it,’ said Jen, circa 2012. Six years on, we’ve heard this is still Jen’s mantra and she’s made it her mission to stop striving for perfection. While she’s fully focused on her career, her main priority is her own well-being and putting herself first. ‘Jen’s placing her needs before anything else,’ explains a friend. ‘She’s taking better care of herself now and she’s trying to pursue a balanced lifestyle, working out more and drinking less alcohol.’
7. LIFE REBOOT
With her career overhaul in full swing, it seems Jen is also doing her best to improve her work/life balance too. According to mates, she’s realised the importance of finding much-needed time out, reconnecting with her roots and even looking to buy a property closer to her family. ‘Jen has been shopping for a ranch in her home state of Kentucky. She’s realised she sometimes needs to get her head out of Hollywood. She’s very down-toearth at heart.’
