KEGWORTH C0MMUNITY LIBRARY. Tonight 7pm and every alternate Wednesday after, it’s EmbarrasSING our singing group for people who can’t sing but are now actually beginning to sound rather good. (Come on, even Ed Sheeran had to start somewhere!) Sociable and great fun, only £2.

In the afternoon of Wednesday, March 29, we will be continuing with our Bored? Games! session. Any games within reason, we did find that rugby sevens was a bit of a challenge around the bookshelves, but feel free to bring along your favourite.

Urgent! We only have the details of the land of interest to Roxhill, developers of the Strategic Rail Freight Interchange until March 28. The plots are as follows:

Main Street, Lockington, Warren Lane, Lockington, Church Street, Lockington, Ashby Road, Kegworth, Whatton Road, Kegworth, A6, south east of Kegworth.

WI ANNIVERSARY. Plans are being made by the Women’s Institute branch at Kegworth to celebrate their 95th birthday, in June. All members will be invited.

CINEMA EVENING. Another cinema evening is planned in Kegworth, on Saturday this weekend, March 25.

The event is promoted by the Kegworth Plan Group and Saturday’s showing is “A Street Cat named Bob”. The evening will be held as usual in Kegworth Village Hall. and will start at 7.30pm.

The film tells the true story of a busker and recovering drug addict whose life was transformed when he met a stray ginger cat. It is described by critics as “a real “feel good” film.” Tickets are all at £4.50 from Picture This, by calling 01509 673138 or pay on the door.

BYPASS DATE. It has been confirmed that the construction of a bypass for Kegworth is due to commence towards the end of this year and is due to be completed in the summer of 2019.

There will be a weight restriction through the village eliminating HGVs except for access and it is estimated that traffic through the village will be 40 per cent of current levels.

But the sudden and unexpected announcement of HS2 coming closer to the village could raise all sorts of questions for those who live or work in Kegworth.

The parish council are, says chairman Coun. David Hignett, forming working parties to look at the opportunities for improving the centre of the village, the approach roads and car parking.

Royal Ascent on HS2 is planned for 2023 and work on the section affecting Kegworth will not start until after 2026.

TRIBUTE BAND. A seismic shock hit Kegworth Village Hall on Friday last week, March 17 as one of Europe’s top tribute bands ABBA Sensation took to the stage at the completely sold out venue.

The band had promised to perform their full stage act, which plays to packed out houses right across Europe and boy did they deliver. From the first minute they had people on their feet as the hits were performed one after the other in a non stop performance of high quality vocals, slick stage moves, costume changes and fabulous lighting effects.

The village hall had probably never experienced such a night before and the building was literally rocking as the audience rose to dance non stop, leading to a crescendo at the end as the band finished with Waterloo, Dancing Queen and finally Thank You for the Music, which led to a standing ovation and the crowd literally roaring for more.

Speaking on behalf of the band, Melody French said “We were promised a very intimate venue and a village ready to party, but wow, Kegworth were amazing, she went on “It was great to see many people had dressed up and there were certainly a lot of dancing queen’s on the dance floor, we would like to thank everyone for a superb night.”

The event which was organised by the OneKegworth to raise funds for their forthcoming events in the village and spokesperson Julie Cooke said “It was a fantastic night in village life, to see so many people on their feet dancing away, was just amazing,” and added “We were not too sure how events like this would be greeted, but our fantastic community in Kegworth did not let us down, we could have sold out twice over.”

She confirmed that the OneKegworth were now actively looking to stage more events like this in the future.
