Matthews reaches semi final

YOUNGSTER Millie Mae Matthews reached the semi finals of the Girls National 16 and Under finals at Roehampton last week.

The 13-year-old was competing against girls three years older but made it through to the semis after a 6-2 7-5 win over Monet Baptiste in the round of 16 and a 0-6 6-2 6-1 win over number four seed Isabelle Marshall in the quarter finals.

In the semis, the Ratcliffe on Soar youngster faced the number one seed Aleksandra Ruggien and was defeated 4-6 0-6.
