Donations by Freemasons
FOUR Loughborough based charities received thousands of pounds in donations at a Freemasons award ceremony.
The Provincial Grand Master of Leicestershire and Rutland, David Hagger, and Grand Superintendent of the Holy Royal Arch, Peter Kinder, presented funding to a number of worthy causes at an event which took place at the Freemasons’ Hall in Leicester.
The Peter Le Marchant Trust, which provides canal day trips for people with physical or mental disabilities, was given £2,000 from the Leicestershire and Rutland Masonic Charity Association.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Janie Martin said: “This donation will go towards the heating system on one of the boats and a hatch on another. It is very much appreciated.”
The Disabled Adventure Club, based in Mountsorrel, received a total of £1,100 including a donation from the Beacon Lodge which meets in Loughborough.
The club provides reasonably priced holidays for people with disabilities who need the support of a group but not necessary one-to-one care.
The Sileby Scout Troop was presented a cheque for £500 by the Royal Arch Masons.
Rebecca Astill, speaking on behalf of the troop, said: “We are going to use it to buy more camping equipment for our District Camp and also buy some more kitchen equipment.”
Loughborough Sea Cadets also received £500 from the Royal Arch Masons. Chairman Sarina Martin commented: “This donation will go towards a new minibus so thank you very much.”
A total of £47,700 was donated by Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons to 31 local and national charities at the event.
David Hagger, Provincial Grand Master of the Leicestershire and Rutland Freemasons, said: “I’m proud that the Freemasons have been able to make a major contribution to society by supporting charities particularly those helping many children and young people.”
