Labour movement’s history group created

Loughborough Echo - - NEWS -

FOUR Loughborough Labour Party members - Jill Vincent, Mike Cahill, Dave Neville and Mike Shuker - are planning to establish a group to research and preserve the history of the Labour Movement in Leicestershire.

A formation meeting, open to anyone interested in Labour History, will be held from 7pm until 8.30pm on Wednesday, November 8, at the Swan in the Rushes, 21 The Rushes, Loughborough.

Work has already encompassed the formation of Labour Parties in Loughborough and Bosworth at the end of World War One; the presence of a Suffragette campaign to unseat Loughborough’s sitting Liberal MP in 1910 and the support from Leicestershire for the workers locked out of work by their employers in Dublin in 1913.

The society hopes to publish much of this work and encourage further research.
