Hairdressers closes

Loughborough Echo - - LOOKING BACK -

AN OLD established hairdressing business, Marriott’s of Churchgate, closed following the retirement of owners Miss N.E. Marriott and Mr Fred Ellingworth.

The business was opened in 1911 by the late Mr Ernest Marriott, and Miss Marriott - who was born on the premises - opened the ladies salon 34 years ago.

Mr Ellingworth had been cutting hair for 52 years, and recalled that when he started in the trade boy’s haircuts were 2d, and mens were 4d.

He said that so great was the call for shaving at the time that there was a rule of no haircutting on Saturdays.

Do you remember Marriott’s? Maybe you used to go for a haircut or a shave? If you do please contact Liam Coleman on 01509 635806 or email liam.coleman@trinitymirror.com
