Disappointed by quarry extension
I WAS disappointed on a recent walk in the Charnwood Forest in the Coalville area to discover a huge swathe of the National Forest currently being destroyed as part of the Bardon Hill quarry extension.
Some of the most beautiful land in the East Midlands is being destroyed for the sake of filling the pockets of the mining companies. Surely, in this age of advanced engineering such an extension could be done by tunnels rather than destroying our beautiful countryside.
This new extension will see land lost for evermore not just for this generation but for those to come. I believe the mining companies have been handed this concession far too easily and we should not allow this land to be lost.
