Police to use drones for patrols

Loughborough Echo - - NEWS -

DRONES could soon be flying above Loughborough and Charnwood to keep watch, under plans unveiled by Leicestershire Police.

The authority’s Chief Constable, Simon Cole, revealed the details at a meeting of Leicestershire County Council’s Police and Crime Panel, responsible for supporting and challenging the Police and Crime Commissioner in his role to hold the Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police to account for the performance of the force.

Mr Cole said: “I was asked about drones rather fortuitously, we had just become a CAA so it’s a Civil Aviation Authority licensed drone force, so we will be using drones.

“We’ll be using them to do things like look for missing people, they’ll enhance our patrol capabilities and we’re just working through with some people who have been trained as pilots how to do that.”
