Shepshed Dolphins get welcome funding boost
Windfall will pay for £4,500 replacement pool hoist
SHEPSHED DOLPHINS swimming group is celebrating after securing funds to replace a vital piece of equipment for the club.
Based at Iveshead School, the group’s members consist of individuals with a disability or long term health condition as well as those recovering from injury or illness.
It offers lane swimming, Aqua fit and free time every Saturday morning from 10.30am-12.30pm but some members haven’t been able to take part as normal recently because its pool hoist is out of action and £4,500 was needed to purchase a new one.
But Shepshed Dolphins administrator Nicola Crowe revealed the necessary funds had been secured thanks to a member grant from Charnwood Borough Council and a donation from Woodstock in Whitwick.
“We were very sad that some of our members could no longer attend our sessions since our pool hoist, a valuable piece of equipment for a swim group like ours, was put out of action.
“We are looking at getting the new hoist as soon as possible now we have the funds to do so. We know how much replacing this will mean to our members who can return once it’s installed so we are very excited about this good news.”
Nicola, who took over the role of administrator and fund-raiser in July, said she had been given a warm welcome by the club and was looking forward to seeing it grow.
“I am very new to the Shepshed Dolphins but have been made so welcome by members and volunteers. It is so nice to see what a wonderful community feel the group has.
“The autumn and winter can be a long period of time in which people with disabilities or health conditions can feel isolated and lonely, being able to offer the group to all disabilities again is amazing.”
