Honouring legend Lando
THE Silkmen come faceto-face with local rivals Stockport County in Richard Landon’s testimonial this Saturday (3pm KO).
And County kitman Landon – who scored Macc’s first winning goal as a Football League club in 1997 – is hoping for a great occasion as two clubs for whom he has such affection meet.
The former Plymouth striker, now 44, spent two years at Edgeley Park in the mid-1990s, which included a loan spell at the Moss Rose. Having then joined the Silkmen permanently in 1997, he netted the winner in a 2-1 win against Torquay.
also netted the club’s first away league goal, and reserved a word of praise for thenmanager Sammy McIlroy.
“I’m grateful to everyone who has given me the chance to play league football,” Landon said.
“However, Sammy not only kept me in league football but he also gave me the chance to stay involved in football.
“I was 31 and he offered me a job; I was at that stage where I was thinking about whether to get a proper job or try and play on, thinking I could still do a job for someone.
“I decided to take him up on his offer and, I’ve got to say, I’ve loved every minute of it since.”
