Further fire strike action in ongoing row
FIREFIGHTERS will strike again this weekend in their row with the Government over pensions and the age of retirement.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union in Macclesfield will stage a three-hour walkout on Saturday (August 16).
The FBU is campaigning against controversial changes it believes will force firemen and women to work into their 60s.
The union is also locked in a dispute with the Government over its plans to make firefighters pay more in pension contributions.
The first strike will start at 12pm till 2pm, with another walkout planned from 11pm to midnight.
FBU spokesman Sean Starbuck said: “The Government are not listening.”
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is calling on the public to be extra vigilant when the strike takes place.
Paul Hancock, chief fire officer, said: “It is important to highlight that the strikes being proposed relate to national issues rather than local ones and that action will only be taken by those staff that are members of the Fire Brigades Union.
“We have plans and procedures in place.”
