Spectacular summer for youth club
CHILDREN are celebrating a summer of spectacular events hosted by their local youth club.
iMacc Youth Club has organised a series of activities for its members over the last three months.
Youngsters have got up close and personal with snakes, creepy crawlies and lizards with Creature Feature; made their own work with local graffiti artist TJ Dolan; were paid a visit by boxing star Liam Hanrahan; started pro- ducing their own radio shows; taken part in rugby and basketball training; skated around at a rollerdisco and kicked off at a youth ‘World Cup’.
All the initiatives have been run by iMacc, which runs every Monday and Thursday at the Fermain Centre, off Oxford Street, Macclesfield, with each session costing 50p per child.
Ant Allen, 42, started the youth club in early 2013.
He said: “It has been a fantastic summer. It all kicked off with the iMacc World Cup, then we had Creature Feature back with their snakes and creepy-crawlies. They also bought tortoises and pygmy hedgehogs from Africa. The children quickly got over their initial fear; think the volunteers were more scared.
“We also were paid a
Ivisit by local boxer Liam Hanrahan. He signed autographs and hosted a question and answer session. He is a local celebrity so there was a bit of hero worship going on, and after his talk he went in and did an interview for the iMacc radio team.”
The iMacc radio station was launched in May to give youngsters the chance to learn about editing, producing and recording their own radio shows which are broadcast by Canalside FM.
Father-of-three Ant added: “We have also had Macclesfield’s Basketball Team and Union Rugby Club training the children and held a roller-disco.
“We’ve got some great stuff coming up too, with circus workshops, husky sledging, TJ Dolan returning, another roller-disco and street and break dance workshops.”
