Shop is super sized
CHARITY shop has quadrupled in size after moving to new premises in Macclesfield.
Age UK Cheshire East’s new shop on Exchange Street in the town centre is four times bigger than the its previous premises on Marketplace, and staff say they hope the new position will attract even more shoppers and donations.
The charity is also intro-
Aducing a new bridal agency for people looking to sell their wedding dress and make a donation to support the work that the charity does. Madelyn Bridge, CEO of Age UK Cheshire East, said: “We’re facing the perfect storm of increased demand for our services and reduced donations and local government funding, but we’re fighting back by making it more convenient for people to shop, donate items and volunteer with this new shop. We’re determined to help older people ward off a poor quality later life of ill health and loneliness and we want the community to support us in whatever way they can.”
With a more visible presence close to the part of town ear-marked for development, the charity hopes it can support growing numbers of older people in the area.
Age UK Cheshire East has had a shop in Macclesfield since 1990 and the funds it has raised has helped the charity to support almost 100,000 older people during that time.
Donations can be dropped off by car at the rear entrance on Roe Street and the shop, opposite WH Smiths and Tesco Metro, is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 4.30pm and on Treacle Market Sundays.
