Shop is su­per sized

CHAR­ITY shop has quadru­pled in size af­ter mov­ing to new premises in Mac­cles­field.

Age UK Cheshire East’s new shop on Ex­change Street in the town cen­tre is four times big­ger than the its pre­vi­ous premises on Mar­ket­place, and staff say they hope the new po­si­tion will at­tract even more shop­pers and do­na­tions.

Aduc­ing a new bridal agency for peo­ple look­ing to sell their wed­ding dress and make a do­na­tion to sup­port the work that the char­ity does. Made­lyn Bridge, CEO of Age UK Cheshire East, said: “We’re fac­ing the per­fect storm of in­creased de­mand for our ser­vices and re­duced do­na­tions and lo­cal gov­ern­ment fund­ing, but we’re fight­ing back by mak­ing it more con­ve­nient for peo­ple to shop, do­nate items and vol­un­teer with this new shop. We’re de­ter­mined to help older peo­ple ward off a poor qual­ity later life of ill health and loneliness and we want the com­mu­nity to sup­port us in what­ever way they can.”

With a more vis­i­ble pres­ence close to the part of town ear-marked for devel­op­ment, the char­ity hopes it can sup­port grow­ing num­bers of older peo­ple in the area.

Age UK Cheshire East has had a shop in Mac­cles­field since 1990 and the funds it has raised has helped the char­ity to sup­port al­most 100,000 older peo­ple dur­ing that time.

Do­na­tions can be dropped off by car at the rear en­trance on Roe Street and the shop, op­po­site WH Smiths and Tesco Metro, is open Mon­day to Satur­day from 9.30am to 4.30pm and on Trea­cle Mar­ket Sun­days.
