Star baker immortalised in Lego bricks
A BAKER who is a contestant on the Great British Bake Off has won the ultimate honour - a tribute in LEGO.
Graphic designer Luis Troyano, who lives in Poynton, is one of 12 contestants on this year’s tv cookery show.
Staff at Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester’s Intu Traffor Centre have created mini figures to represent all the contestants in support of the Poynton baker.
Complete with mini figures of Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and presenters Mel and Sue, the set created from 618 LEGO bricks by master model builder Alex Bidolak, shows the contestants at their stations ready to take on this week’s challenge - for biscuit week.
Luis, who is married to Louise, said: “I’m completely blown away. I thought it was just some- thing they have done for a poster, I didn’t realise you can go and see it.
“I was only there about a week before the bake off came on, it would have been very strange to see it. Lego is really iconic so it’s a real honour, although it’s a bit weird if people can buy mini Luis!”
Luis has already been described as the ‘dark horse’ in the competition after earning the accolade as ‘Star Baker’ for his inventive loaf in last week’s episode.
He said: “I can’t believe the response I have had since appearing on the show.
“It’s been fantastic. I had about 50 followers on Twitter and all of a sudden I’ve got 2,000.
“It seems the whole world is watching it.
“I’ve been stopped a few times by people asking if I am on the bake off, but everyone has been very nice about it.
“It’s nice to know that people are interested. I put a recipe on my website and I’ve had a few people make it and send in pictures which is really nice to see.”
The LEGO attraction is currently on display at Legoland Discovery Centre and also features a North West MINILAND, built from more than 1.5 million LEGO bricks.
It brings to life local iconic buildings including the famous Corrie cobbles with the Rovers Return and the unforgettable stone cladding on what was Jack and Vera’s house.
Other models include Intu Trafford Centre, Blackpool Tower and the city’s famous football grounds along with moving airships, trains and trams.
Luis will face his next bake off challenge tonight on BBC1 at 8pm.
