GILES Hea­gerty’s first game as Mac­cles­field’s head coach ended in a vic­tory as the Blues were 34-26 vic­tors over Caldy.

Af­ter a for­ward pass saw their first score chalked off Tom Ea­ton put Josh Fowles in to score.

But Caldy hit back to make it 5-5 at the 10-minute mark.

The Blues scored a stun­ning try when Matt King set Ol­lie Fewtrell on a run and he off­loaded for Jonny Kenny to cross for a 12-5 lead.

El­liott Bri­er­ley’s try, cou­pled with a penalty, made it 22-5 but Caldy got back into con­tention just be­fore the break, touch­ing down out wide for a 22-12 score­line.

A try shortly af­ter the restart brough them to within three points of their hosts, and an­other try put Caldy in the lead.

Af­ter Caldy lost a man to a yel­low card prop El­liot Mills’ try put Macc back in the lead and when Chris Jones (right) com­pleted the scor­ing with a catch-and-drive try at a li­ne­out that made the fi­nal score 34-26 in a de­cent off-sea­son out­ing.
