Tennis talents serve up success in junior and veteran contests
TENNIS players from Prestbury have been celebrating a number of successes.
Five youngsters came very close to taking the trophy while competing in the Youatt Cup, which was played at Prestbury Tennis Club.
Ten teams entered the competition this year, and the tournament began with round robin matches played in boxes to determine the four teams which would go through to the semi finals.
Ruth Moyes, a member of the club, said: “Prestbury beat a team from Brabyns in the semi final and then went on to play Bramhall Lane in the final in sweltering heat.
“The girls put up a valiant fight but lost their match to two very experienced players and the boys team drew – winning the first set 6-3 and narrowly losing the second set in a tie break.
“It was a fantastic effort from all players and as runners up they won a cheque for £150 for Prestbury Tennis club. Well done.”
Ladies from the club also competed in the Ladies Veterans Cheshire Plate competition – winning the tournament.
Ruth added: “Our ladies battled hard in the final of the Cheshire Veterans Plate and emerged victorious.
“Congratulations to all who played in the final and the other matches leading up to it.”
