May­oral party gives col­lege the thumbs up

STU­DENTS at Mac­cles­field Col­lege were praised as ‘switched-on’ dur­ing a visit by the Mayor of Cheshire East.

Coun­cil­lor Wes­ley Fitzger­ald and his wife Joan were given a guided tour of the cam­pus on Park Lane by prin­ci­pal Si­mon An­drews.

They took in the var­i­ous spe­cial­ist train­ing ar­eas aimed at teach­ing stu­dents con­struc­tion and car­ing tech­niques aimed at giv­ing learn­ers real-world skills.

The mayor and may­oress chat­ted to staff and stu­dents as they vis­ited the col­lege’s Silk Room restau­rant and train­ing kitchen, art and de­sign stu­dios and hair and beauty salon.

The cou­ple also vis­ited the en­gi­neer­ing depart­ment with its aero­space hangar, and one of the col­lege’s key growth ar­eas, the con­struc­tion-based cour­ses fa­cil­ity.

A spokesman for the col­lege said: “Mr An­drews told the may­oral team about the col­lege’s strate­gic di­rec­tion, de­scrib­ing how the col­lege was suc­cess­fully de­vel­op­ing its fa­cil­i­ties and re­sources.

“Coun Fitzger­ald told Mr An­drew he was im­pressed with the way the col­lege was con­tribut­ing to the lo­cal econ­omy in pro­vid­ing a skilled work­force.

“He also said on how well man­aged and or­dered the col­lege felt and found the stu­dents he met were very re­spect­ful and switched on to learn­ing.”
