Club gives mum her much-needed Muay Thai time
Name: Emily Ellarby. What sports club are you involved with? I do Muay Thai – Thai boxing – classes at The Shanti Academy in Poynton.
Here I enjoy the ladies’ fitness classes, the mixed circuit classes and also one-to-one training.
Position: Club member. How many members are there? Around eight to 14 adults attend each class. What do you enjoy the most about your sport? I love that the sport has enabled me to get fit and toned – the classes have a great buzz about them and I learn new skills every week. Where and when do you meet? I like to train around three to four times a week.
There are classes in the mornings and evenings so I can pick and choose depending on what fits in with work, home and my three children. What is the best thing about Macclesfield? You are never far from some lovely walks/runs with great views. What is the most memorable sportsrelated thing to have happened to you? This summer I went to Thailand and was able to train with a Muay Thai instructor there.
It was a fantastic test of the skills I have learned to date and I loved the experience.
Something I never thought I would be involved in just two years ago. Any other information? Attending Shanti has been so good for me.
I initially started taking my then four-year-old son to the mixed martial art classes, then my six-yearold daughter got involved too and I thought that looks like fun!
As a busy mum it’s a chance for me to have some muchneeded ‘my time’ training in this way – short bursts of high intensity training took a little getting used to but has been easy to build up as I have become fitter and stronger.
I wouldn’t give it up now for the world, I well and truly have the bug!
