By­ron ti­tle hopes are back on right track

LORD BY­RON got back to win­ning ways last Wed­nes­day with a 6-1 win at Rail­way View. Their ti­tle as­pi­ra­tions had been dealt a blow after a nar­row 4-3 loss against Nags ‘A’.

With the score locked at 3-3, the Nags snatched vic­tory through Lee Banks and Steve Hol­land.

But By­ron’s win over Rail­way sees them five points be­hind Queens with six games left to play.

An em­phatic 7-0 vic­tory at Bruce ‘A’ saw Queens ‘A’ main­tain their mo­men­tum at the top, with Glen Valen­tine, Andy Jack­son, Kirk Ten-Pi­er­ick, Bryan Jones, Mark Billing, Mark Turner prov­ing strong in the sin­gles, be­fore Si­mon Goda and Neil Pod­more com­pleted the rout in the dou­bles.

Spin­ners oc­cupy third spot after a 6-1 home win against Rail­way View. The hosts fired them­selves into a 4-0 lead, be­fore Paul Bar­net grabbed one back for Rail­way. But Spin­ners con­tin­ued their clin­i­cal edge in the dou­bles through Mick Hat­ton and Matt Bar­ton.

Queens B de­feated Sport­ing B 5-2 and with a tight, early contest poised at 2-2, Andy McKeith and Craig Lyons fired Queens into a 4-2 lead , be­fore McKeith and Rob Lock­ett kept a clean per­for­mance in the dou­bles.

Else­where, Flow­er­pot recorded a con­vinc­ing 6-1 vic­tory at Nags ‘B’. Bruce B earned a hard-fought 4-3 vic­tory at Bri­tish Flag, while Bro­ken X de­feated Sport­ing ‘A’ 5-2 at home.
