Striker’s fight for starting place
MATTHEW BarnesHomer believes Macclesfield’s good start to the season will make it tough for him to force his way into the starting XI.
The 28-year-old striker has rejoined his former club on loan from Whitehawk, and marked his first game back with a goal against Dartford on Saturday.
Despite that late equaliser, BarnesHomer knows he will have to be at his best if he wants to be a regular in the Silkmen team.
Speaking after the Dartford draw, he said: “The lads here have been working really hard and getting some great results, so I know I have to do a lot to get into the side.
“I’m really pleased to be here and, to be honest, I’d have liked to have joined in the summer.
“It’s been a while since I was here, but I liked it at Macclesfield, we had some great games that season and I’m looking forward to getting to work.
“I’ve really missed the day-to-day involvement of being at a full-time club, so I have enjoyed the couple of days I’ve been here so far and can’t wait to get fully back into full-time football and earn myself a place in the side.”
The striker was previously at Macclesfield during the 2012/13 season, scoring 21 goals during the campaign.
