WOMAN,, 61, FACES JAIL OVER OAP ROAD DEATH

A WOMAN is fac­ing prison after be­ing found guilty of caus­ing the death of a pen­sioner by dan­ger­ous driv­ing.

Susan Ray­bould, 61, was driv­ing her Ford Ka along Hurds­field Road in Mac­cles­field when she col­lided with Pamela Jaya­sun­dera, Ch­ester Crown Court heard.

Ms Jaya­sun­dera had been cross­ing the road us­ing two walk­ing sticks. She suf­fered se­vere in­juries in­clud­ing a bro­ken leg and frac­tured skull and later died. Ray­bould ad­mit­ted caus­ing death by care­less driv­ing but was found guilty of the more se­ri­ous charge of caus­ing death by dan­ger­ous driv­ing fol­low­ing a trial.

Matthew Dun­ford, prose­cut­ing, told the court that Ray­bould’s driv­ing ‘fell far be­low what would have been ex­pected of a care­ful driver’. One wit­ness claimed Ray­bould’s eyes were not on the road at the time of the ac­ci­dent. ●● FULL story on page 5
