Michael Ashcroft focuses on Manchester in his latest 30-piece exhibition, Reflections of Manchester.

His work, in the style of American artist Edward Hopper, reveals how neon-lit bars and cutting-edge design sit next to historic buildings.

It is all the more remarkable considering he survived a brain tumour at 28.

Michael, 45, said: “It took a long time to get over the initial diagnosis and operation but what it did do was reconnect me with art which I had always been interested in as a hobby.

“I spent a lot of time in Manchester after diagnosis and grew to love it.”

The exhibition is at Colourfield Gallery on London Road South until tomorrow.
