●● Start to pick Brussels sprouts and sprout­ing broc­coli. ●● Con­tinue to plant garlic, to give it a head start for next year. ●● Re­move dead growth from ponds, as aquatic plants die back now any­way. ●● Prune asparagus, cut­ting the stems off at ground level to make way for next year’s crop. ●● If fairy rings have ap­peared on your lawn, re­move the fun­gus, spike, wa­ter and feed any dead ar­eas of grass that they cause. ●● Sow sweet peas in pots in the green­house, to give you early flow­ers next year. ●● Wipe shad­ing paint off the green­house win­dows to al­low as much light in as pos­si­ble. ●● Fill any gaps with peren­ni­als, while the soil is still soft enough to dig. ●● Give beds a good weed, to give you a head start and pre­vent so many burst­ing into life next spring. ●● If chrysan­the­mums have fin­ished flow­er­ing, dry them off, cut them back and keep them in a frost-free place in­doors, ready for spring plant­ing.
