Bosley take triple crown
TUG OF WAR ALAN KNOTT
BOSLEY Tug of War Club recently competed at the Yorkshire Open Championships at the Countryside Live agricultural show in Harrogate.
The team took a small squad of pullers to the event, and were up against a number of other teams from Lancashire and Yorkshire.
Bosley competed in two men’s weight classes, the 640 and 680kg.
The first weight class was the 640kg competition, with Bosley starting with a very close and exciting pull against the very strong Billsborrow team from Lancashire, who reached the final of the National Young Farmers’ event this year.
Billsborrow took the first end, but Bosley won the next two, in a match that sapped the energy of both teams.
Towards the latter stages of the competition, Bosley and another Lancashire team, Longridge, emerged as the top two teams, and they had another tough match, going all the way to three ends.
Again Bosley lost the first end but battled hard to take the next two ends, finishing as winners, with Longridge ending as runners-up.
Bosley then competed in the 680kg competition. This weight was split into two groups, with the top two from each group progressing to the semifinals.
Bosley did make the final four, along with Billsborrow, Chipping, and Upper Wharfedale.
Billsborrow defeated Chipping in their semifinal, and Bosley beat Upper Wharfedale in the other.
The final was another exciting pull between Billsborrow and Bosley, with Billsborrow coming very close to taking the first end, only for Bosley to take it all the way back over the line.
Another hard-fought second end saw Bosley take victory.
Bosley also had members of the team competing in the mixed ‘4+4’ event, is a relatively new weight class in which mixed teams compete.
Bosley joined forces with the ladies from Penistone in Yorkshire to compete in this 660kg weight class and they performed strongly to win without losing a single end.
This was Bosley’s final outdoor event of the 2014 season and the team is now holding winter training sessions once a week on Wednesday evenings at 8pm. These training sessions are open to anyone and those looking for more information should call 07976 591222.
