Lion lose a crunch clash

GOLDEN Lion’s bid for the Leek and Dis­trict SFL ti­tle took a knock when they were beaten by their near­est chal­lengers.

The Lion hosted sec­ond-placed El­mos Celtic at Wind­mill Street but suf­fered a 5-2 de­feat, a re­sult that nar­rows the gap at the top to one point.

Rail­way View’s search for a first win of the seaosn con­tin­ues as they drew 2-2 with Water­houses.

In the East Cheshire SFL Divi­son One lead­ers Queens took over top spot with a 4-3 win at home to Dis­ley while Poyn­ton Work­men’s Club en­joyed derby de­light with a 2-0 vic­tory over Poyn­ton FC.

Poyn­ton Le­gion suf­fered a 3-0 de­feat at West­lands in the Sec­ond Di­vi­sion, but lead­ers Nav­i­ga­tion won 3-2 at Bur­nage Metro to lead by two points from Marple Villa, who drew 4-4 with Dol­phin Inn.

In Di­vi­sion Three there were de­feats for Bri­tan­nia, 2-1 at Lady­brook, and Rich­mond Rovers, who lost 2-0 to vis­i­tors Lord By­ron.

Bro­ken Cross Ath­letic had their first de­feat of the sea­son in Di­vi­sion Four. They were bested 6-2 by lead­ers AFC Bam­boo, but Tyther­ing­ton Ju­niors en­joyed a 4-1 win at home to In­ter Chea­dle seconds.

In League Cup ac­tion, David Lewis Cen­tre couldn’t pull off a shock against top-flight strug­glers North West Fire. Although Rob Spils­burg net­ted twice and Andy Brown and Omar Lamptey also scored, they fell to a 10-4 de­feat.
