Mum tells of car chase horror
AMUM has described her horror after her car was hit by a vehicle being pursued by police.
Gemma Stacey, 32, and her three-year-old daughter Mia were travelling in a VW Golf on Bostock Road on the Weston estate when a Peugeot 306 Meridian came hurtling towards them from the opposite direction.
In an effort to pass the driver of the Peugeot mounted the pavement, but ended up ramming Gemma’s car and damaged the left side. He then got wedged between Gemma’s car and a hedge.
The dramatic smash ended a brief pursuit by police which started almost a mile away in Warwick Road at 10.30am on New Year’s Eve.
Both Gemma and Mia were taken to Macclesfield Hospital and released later that day. Gemma continues to be treated for head, neck and back injuries.
The mum-of-one said the smash has left her traumatised.
Gemma, who works in the banking sector, said: “We were on our way to Whirley Park to take the dogs for a walk when it happened. Bostock Road is always busy and you always have to allow traffic to pass. Suddenly this car came racing around the corner. I expected to have to reverse to let it pass but before I got a chance to change gear he was flying towards me. It was terrifying.
“I couldn’t get out of the way. The car hit the passenger side and tried to smash its way through but stopped against a hedge. I was scared Mia had been hurt and was screaming. We’re both fine really, but it’ll take some time to get over it.”
a 20-year-old man from Macclesfield on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop. He has been released on police bail until February.
A 22-year-old man from Macclesfield, who was a passenger in the car, was arrested, but he has since been released without charge.
A 27-year-old woman, who was in the area at the time of the incident, was issued with a fixed penalty notice for using abusive or threatening language.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At approximately 10.30am, Wednesday 31 December 2014 a patrol identified a suspicious vehicle travelling along Warwick Road in Macclesfield and attempted to stop the vehicle. As the vehicle failed to stop officers then followed the blue Peugeot 306 Meridian, at safe distance. As the vehicle approached the junction with Bostock Road the Peugeot was seen to mount the pavement before colliding with a black Volkswagen Golf.”
