Macclesfield Express - - SCHOOLS NEWS - ALEX HIBBERT

TRAVEL and tourism students hosted their own Indian-themed event to raise funds for a school trip.

Sari-clad Macclesfield College pupils treated guests to cocktails in the college’s Silk Room Res- taurant as well as an authentic Indian buffet meal prepared by fellow catering students.

A raffle and quiz were held, with prizes donated by local organisations, and the money raised throughout the night will help towards an educational trip overseas.

During the four-day trip in February the students will be working as holiday reps in the Spanish resort of Benalmadena. Other forthcoming field trips also include excursions to Disneyland Paris and The Somme in France.

Course teachers Nwyla Tatton, Deborah Sandhu and Becky Marshall praised the students’ hard work after the event. Nwyla said: “The students did a fantastic job of organising the Indianthemed event and putting into practice the business skills which they’ve developed while on the BTEC course.

“The planned educational trips are a vital part of the students’ course as they provide a great opportunity to experience first-hand how the travel and tourism industry operates.”
