Beavers cel­e­brate top scout award

A GROUP of chil­dren have cel­e­brated achiev­ing the high­est award avail­able in the Beaver scouts.

The eight mem­bers of 1st Hurds­field Beavers - Charlie Glynn, Jack Naden, James Truswell, Oliver Crieghton, Ben McDer­mott, Kyran Tyler, Pa­trick Wilkin­son and Thomas Benn - picked up the Chief Scout Bronze award by com­plet­ing dif­fer­ent chal­lenges.

For the friend­ship badge they do­nated colour­ing books, crayons and story books to a char­ity after a talk about chil­dren at an or­phan­age in Uganda which is sup­ported by Mac­cles­field res­i­dent Rhona Mar­shall.

For the out­door badge they went on sleep­overs at Barnswood camp site and did sev­eral hikes.

For the fit­ness badge they did lots of ex­er­cises and healthy eat­ing.

For the global badge they learned about other coun­tries and how peo­ple live, work and play. For the cre­ativ­ity badge they built a spaghetti flag pole and a bon­fire guy.

For the prom­ise badge they did a church visit, took part in a Re­mem­brance Day pa­rade, com­pleted some prayer writ­ing and learned about Fair Trade.

Greg Carter from the unit said: “We’re re­ally proud of them as it takes a lot of hard work and con­cen­tra­tion.

“It’s un­usual to have so many get this award in this short space of time.”
