Fair is back in town

Macclesfield Express - - BARLOW’S BRIEF -

A POPULAR potato fair that ended when one of its organisers died is set to return to the town.

The annual Bollington Potato Fair has been resurrected by local produce group Food4Macc, which aims to encourage local people to eat locally produced food.

The Macclesfield based volunteer association, which also tries to encourage residents to grow their own fruit and vegetables, staged its own version of the fair at Macclesfield Town Hall in January last year.

And it was such a success that they are now hosting it again this month, with a view to it becoming a regular event in the town.

Organiser Stuart Potter said: “This proved to be a very popular and successful event last January and we are delighted to be able to host it once again at the Town Hall in Macclesfield.

“The fair provides a great opportunity for gardeners and allotment holders to buy what they need for the coming season.

“We are a charitable group of volunteers, working to support local food production. It is quite a financial commitment for us to host this event and so we hope it will be very well supported, which we hope will help to keep it going in the town for many years to come.”

The fair will coincide with Treacle Market, on Sunday, January 25 from 10am to 3pm.
