Freestyle dancing group’s pledge to top winning year
A DANCE school is celebrating its best year yet.
Dance Addicts, based at the Silk Works on Pickford Street, entered its youngsters in 18 competitions through 2014, resulting many success stories.
Across the disciplines and age groups the school saw 54 winners and 20 more podium finishes.
But the school’s biggest success was to see five dancers qualifying for Disco Kid, the World Cup of Freestyle Dancing, which involves 2,000 dancers from all over the world. December
Some of the dancers were chosen to represent the UK at the dance world championships in Black- pool in July.
Allan Lowden, owner and former champion dancer, said: “Dance Addicts is now two years old but this has been our first year at competitions.
“In our first year we have had 18 competitions and had 74 dancers in the top two, 54 winners and seven Tops of Tops, where all the winners dance against each other for the overall winner.
“The biggest story of the year however is that we had qualifiers for the biggest and best competition there is, Disco Kid. People literally come from all over the world to try and qualify.
“I had originally thought it would take us years to qualify. I know schools who have been going for 10 years and haven’t qualified.
“I personally danced for 25 years at another school and didn’t qualify once.”
“We managed to have five dancers at Disco Kid, we achieved this by our teachers teaching new modern teaching techniques, having very committed dancers and very helpful parents.
“It was an amazing 2014 for Team Dance Addicts, bring on 2015.”
Classes for boys and girls from 18 months to 18 years run on Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings.
