Friends get together to support hospice
A GROUP of friends who have been raising money for charities for more than 20 years have given their latest donation to East Cheshire Hospice.
Dennis and Karen Meszaros, Lorraine and Kevin Wilshaw, Graham Burgess and Dave Oakes – known as the Friends that Do – grew up together in Macclesfield and have been raising money for good causes over more than two decades.
They estimate they have raised more than £100,000 over the years.
Last year they organised a 10-mile charity walk around Macclesfield, visiting 10 pubs along the way, as well as a golf day at Macclesfield Golf club.
The friends have handed the £7,098 raised to East Cheshire Hospice staff at a special presentation.
Dennis Meszaros said: “We do something every year for charity.
“We’ve grown up together and went to Ryles Park School and wanted to do something to help the community.”
Helena Gowler, from the hospice, thanked the group for their donation.
She said: “The Friends that Do got together to make a difference to their community.
“They raised a fantastic amount for the hospice.”
