●● CHESHIRE East council has agreed to extend the existing 20mph speed limit through the village.
The move will extend the existing 20mph zone through the village, from the Prestbury Hall end of the main street to the south east up Macclesfield Road to Ashbrooke Drive, and to the west past the new Co-op store as far as Spencer Brook.
Cheshire East has also promised an independent review of the safety of the narrow section of Wilmslow Road beyond the proposed speed limit extension as far as the children’s road crossing point close to the entrance to Castlegate.
The parish council has campaigned over the speed cars travel through the village for many years.
Arthur Dicken, chairman, of Prestbury Parish Council, said: “The council welcome this extension of the 20 mph zone as a further contribution to our road safety campaign by further reducing the speed of traffic through the village.
“We also welcome the safety study.
“The Parish Council has for a long time been concerned on behalf of residents about the dangers of that steep and narrow section of Macclesfield Road as it enters the village from Wilmslow.”
