Card club hands funds to hospice
A COMMUNITY card club handed a cash boost to a hospice after fundraising on its behalf.
Geoff Davison, Chairman of Prestbury’s Duplicate Bridge Club, presented Dorothy Barber, ambassador for the East Cheshire Hospice, with a cheque for the charity at a club party.
The club, which meets on a Tuesday evening at Prestbury Village Hall, has given £9,444 to the Hospice since December 2013.
Since the club began 23 years ago it has managed to raise a total of £69,444 for the Hospice, as well as providing many hours of bridge to residents of the village and surrounding areas.
Lesley Taylor, the club’s secretary, said: “The club was originally set up as a way to help the hospice by raising money for it.
“Each of our members pay £25 to join the club and any profit that is made after paying for venue hire and other expenses we give to the hospice.
“We also hold dinners and a Christmas party to raise further funds, which is always helped by our members who are always very generous.”
