Card club hands funds to hospice

A COM­MU­NITY card club handed a cash boost to a hospice after fundrais­ing on its be­half.

Ge­off Dav­i­son, Chair­man of Prest­bury’s Du­pli­cate Bridge Club, pre­sented Dorothy Bar­ber, am­bas­sador for the East Cheshire Hospice, with a cheque for the char­ity at a club party.

The club, which meets on a Tues­day evening at Prest­bury Vil­lage Hall, has given £9,444 to the Hospice since De­cem­ber 2013.

Since the club be­gan 23 years ago it has man­aged to raise a to­tal of £69,444 for the Hospice, as well as pro­vid­ing many hours of bridge to res­i­dents of the vil­lage and sur­round­ing ar­eas.

Les­ley Tay­lor, the club’s sec­re­tary, said: “The club was orig­i­nally set up as a way to help the hospice by rais­ing money for it.

“Each of our mem­bers pay £25 to join the club and any profit that is made after pay­ing for venue hire and other ex­penses we give to the hospice.

“We also hold din­ners and a Christ­mas party to raise fur­ther funds, which is al­ways helped by our mem­bers who are al­ways very gen­er­ous.”
