Major success for Morgan
LAST weekend Morgan Frith who competes for Macclesfield Harriers Under-13 boys, took part in the Northern Athletics Under 13/15 Indoor Championships at the English Institute of Sports in Sheffield.
The competition attracts athletes from across the north of England and Morgan, a Year Seven pupil at Fallibroome High School and a Harrier since the age of nine, specialises in jumps and sprints.
He entered the 60m and long jump competitions.
Winning his 60m qualifying heat in a new personal best of 8.20sec saw him take the fastest qualifying time in to the final.
A perfect start to the final resulted in him winning gold with another PB of 8.04sec, beating the silver medallist by almost half a second.
This win also set a new championship record and has also seen Morgan take an Under-13 boys 60m indoor, UK number one ranking.
Buoyed by his success on the track he then transferred to his primary event, the long jump.
With his first two jumps both measuring 5.04m the competition – and a second gold medal – was effectively sealed and this distance was also a new personal best, Championship record and resulted in a UK number one ranking.
