●● In our February 11 edition we reported that work is going to start on the £290m Manchester Airport Relief Road. The 10km dual carriageway is said to clear the way for a new spur to be built to ease congestion around Poynton.

Businesses and landowners have refused to sell their properties and are set to take their fight to a public inquiry.
Mel Pearson said: “I have lived in Macclesfield most of my life and I love its heritage, but this cannot carry on. The town centre is dying. Something needs to be done now not in years to come.”
Sheila Smith said: “I don’t think it will ever be done in my lifetime and I’m only in my fifties. Macc is an absolute disgrace. Mill Street needs renaming charity shop street. I go out of town to shop as not a decent shop these days as all closing.”
