Man found smoking joint on doorstep
A MAN was fined after police found him smoking a joint on his doorstep.
Gavin Bayley, 28, was found by officers smoking cannabis outside his home on Wardour Close, Macclesfield, magistrates heard.
Debbie Byrne, prosecuting at Macclesfield Magistrates Court, said: “The defendant was standing in the doorway smoking a cannabis rollup.
“He was asked if there was any more in the house and admitted there was.
“Officers retrieved a small quantity of cannabis in a snap bag.
“He said it was for his personal use and he’d paid £40 for it.”
Bayley pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis on April 1.
The court heard he has four previous court appearances for six offences.
The defendant, representing himself in court, spoke to magistrates only to tell them he earns £1,600 a month and has two children and a mortgage.
Magistrates fined Bayley £265 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £27 victim surcharge.
Adrian Long, chairman of the bench, said: “We note your prompt guilty plea and that you don’t have past drug offences, although you don’t have an entirely clean record.”
