Festival marks battle’s 200th year
A SPECIAL festival will be held to mark the 200th anniversary of White Nancy and the Battle of Waterloo.
Organisers are busy planning events to commemorate the anniversary of the battle, which was fought near Waterloo in Belgium when Napoleon’s French army was defeated by the Duke of Wellington and a Prussian army.
Kerridge landmark White Nancy was built in 1817 to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Waterloo, so there will be events to recognise this.
Deborah Roberts, from the organising team behind the festival, said: “Bollington will be holding a bicentenary festival to commemorate the battle and the connection to White Nancy.
“We have organised a competition for a design to paint White Nancy for the occasion. There will be something for all ages at the festival.”
It runs from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21.
